Last night...she said...
Hello girls and boys. It’s my first day of work and half past midnight. I’m a little wasted, and have completely remembered why I came back. TEFL – the first day of paid work – told to arrive at 11.00 or 12.00, and turn up at 11.40, to find one other person has arrived – everyone else arrives at two, three, four, six…and no-one mentions it. The day – hanging around, moving a few books around, late pub lunch, hang around, paid for drinks, wine and dinner, then pub. And this is a day I’m paid for. Excellent. And why did I come back? The people. The teachers. They’re fabulous – much fun and laughter. It feels like I never left – a feeling aided by the fact I have the same room as last year, which I’m going to swap for a bigger one with my own balcony. Cambridge is sunny and beautiful and so English. Although I’m not travelling, like it feels everyone else is, the feeling of having another set of brilliant people, and a green and pretty place to live is worth it. The pubs are full of beams, the meals are paid for and random conversations persist. This joy will be over soon – when I start teaching…maybe or perhaps maybe not. We’ll all find out. But at the moment, I’m very content, although I have to be at Castlebrae for 8.20 if I want to go to breakfast. This feels early, or early enough to sleeeeeep now. Come and visit me. I’ll be online soon – the staff room is going to have wireless – hurrah!!!
